Future Static transforms reggaeton classic "Gasolina" into heavy metal.

A band from Melbourne decided to unite two completely different scenes in this new version

Melbourne-based alternative metal/metalcore quintet Future Static returns in an unexpected way with a metal cover of Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee , "Gasolina" – available now via Wild Thing Records.

Vocalist Amariah Cook , born in Melbourne and raised in Barcelona, blends the vastly different worlds of metal and reggaeton from her upbringing, creating a chaotic and venomous version of the global Latin hit. “Gasolina” is a clash of deep riffs, ferocious drumming, and furious vocals.

Having grown up among “True Metalheads” and their opposites, “Reggaeton fans,” Future Static’s rendition of “Gasolina” allowed Amariah to finally bring together these two contrasting, yet equally crucial, components of her adolescence. Amariah explains: “Back then, metalheads hate reggaeton, so bringing these two mortal enemies together was a fun idea for me. I’ve always had a part of my soul that wanted to try and unite these two socially and musically opposed groups.”.

“Gasolina” marks the beginning of a new phase for Future Static. Guitarist Ryan Qualizza summarizes: “'Gasolina' is our way of getting people ready for our first album, which will be released later this year. We wanted to do something different and make a statement with this single, as a precursor to the album. Whether it's the production, the visuals, or the sonic exploration, we're taking things to new and exciting places.”
